Day 1 Miami Ingrid

In a fantastic first day of competition, Steve and Heidi Benjamin's Carkeek 40 Spookie have taken the early lead in the 2013 HPR40 Midwinter Championship, held in conjunction in Miami with the Gaastra 52 SuperSeries World Championship. Their scores of 1-3 in today's two races only give them a tie-break advantage to George Collins and Ian Gordon's Farr 400 Chessie Racing.

Dee Smith, skipper of Race 2 winner Team Premier, said the latest rating adjustment given in the V4f1 calculator seemed "about right" for these conditions of 16-20 knots in Race 1 and 13-16 knots in Race 2, although he admitted their Race 2 win was earned on the gift of a 15-degree shift on the first beat.

Stephen Murray's Decision, winner at the last HPR event at Quantum Key West, succombed to the conditions in Race 4 with a broken spinnaker, but will no doubt recover to be back in the game tomorrow.
