Key West, FL -- The foreceast on Day Three of Quantum Key West was dismal, with less than 5 knots predicted for the entire day, but in the morning a light northerly arose so after only a one hour delay racing started in 6-8 knots and flat water. As in the first two days, the HPR entries dominated the front row of the starts, and with their size and speed TONNERRE and TRUE were typically free to find clear air and get their preferred positions on the course. Key West, FL -- Today's racing in Day Two of Quantum Key West was a day of contrasts: light air and an abandoned first race was replaced by light rain, a building southerly breeze to 12 knots, and eventually sunshine as the breeze dropped down to 8 knots on the final leg of the last of the day's two races. An ebb current in the southerly and a new level of aggression on the starts saw the class crowding the start lines, with no less than 4 boats called OCS in the first start race. Read more..
January 19, 2015 -- Key West, FL -- The five entries being scored HPR got off to a fast start in today's 8-12 knot conditions in Day One of Quantum Key West, quickly legging out over their rivals in the ten-boat IRC 2 Class. In near-ideal conditions of sunny skies, flat water, and a breeze that showed enough variation to be interesting but not too much to frustrate, it was Steve and Heidi Banjamin's Carkeek 40 SPOOKIE that won the first race, but not without having to come from behind Bill Coate's Ker 43 OTRA VEZ's early lead in the first half of this four-leg 8.
